The Farm
The fattoria is located in a pretty unspoiled valley nestled in the rolling hills surrounding the medieval village of San Miniato. The position is enviable since it is within easy driving distance of the main 4 cities in Tuscany: Florence, Pisa, Lucca and Siena.
The farmcouvers 54 hectares and includes vegetable crops, two vineyards, olive grove, arable lands and coppice.
The farm dates back to 1700s. Originally it was a podere, a parcel of land of a larger estate.
Today it is a modern organic farm producing large quantities of various vegetables aromatic herbs and strawberries, and of course wine.
The farm includes several working buildings and a small B&B.
We grow a number of different vegetables, mainly fennel, leaks, cabbage, beats, tomatoes, potatoes, salads, asparagus, artichokes, onions and garlic, on a carefully planned rotation to ensure the land isn’t over exploited. We have just started growing aromatic herbs for which there is high demand. In Spring and Summer we grow strawberries. They do very well here and we have become justly famous in the area. Most of our fruit and vegetables goes to organic shops but we deliver weekly boxes directly to families.
Our 2.5 ha of vineyards, planted with san gives, merlot and cabernet grapes, yield up to 10.000 bottles.
The Vineyard
The vineyards are planted with 1.2 ha of San Giovese, 0.7 of Merlot and 0.6 of Cabernet. We produce between 5000 and 10.000 bottles of wine every year. Il Rosso Biologico, or tuscan red, is a blend of three grapes. It changes from year to year depending on the harvest. It enjoys a good reputation in the region. Il Rosso Biologico is entirely made in-house. From grape harvest to fermentation and aging and bottling.
The Farmhouse
We completely rebuilt the Farm House but wanted to preserve the feeling and style of an old Tuscan Farm House. The result is a practical 21Century home in a charming 17th Century exteriors. We preserved the old facade with scaffolding and gutted the interior from foundations to the roof. We built 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms, 2 living rooms, one on each floor, a sumptuous open space kitchen leading into the dining area which features an amazing fireplace.
The ground floor opens onto a huge terrace under which we built a garage for two cars, a large laundry area and storage and meeting areas. There is also a wood fire bread and pizza oven which gets used a lot. The house is heated with low temperature floor heating and equipped with centralized air conditioning with hidden fan coils and ventilated roof. The floors are either wooden parquet or Tuscan cotto. The bathrooms and kitchen are embellished with hand painted tiles and there is fibreoptic internet connection throughout.
The Barn
Beh barn is another classic rural building in red brick. It is currently used for storage. However, it could be converted into a restaurant, a production facility or even apartments.
The Red House
The red house consists of the farmer’s shop alongside a small office and storage space for products and wines. The mechanical workshop and the chipped wood boiler are located at the back of the house.
On the west side there’s a worker’s changing facility, the wine cellar and a nice veranda. On the front lawn, under an old pine tree there are wooden tables for summer parties and a kid’s playground.
The Firs Floor
The first floor has been divided into 3 apartments: 4-bedrooms apartment, 2 bedrooms apartments and 1 bedroom apartment
The Shed
The shed is the main processing area. The height can be increased to double the size and converted into B&B rooms or apartments even restaurant or spa.
Restoring The Lodge The Barn Coupled With The Facilities Of The Red House The Total Number Of Bed Could Be Increased To 30. The Operation Could Be Significantly Increased By Restoring The Old Parsonage Close To The Pieve Di San Giovanni Which Is No A Ruin.
